Volunteer with Flags for Roselle
How can I get involved?
Dear Flags for Roselle Volunteer,
As we gear up to make 2024 a successful year, we are hoping that we can count on
the community's support to help make that possible. Please keep in mind, some of
these flag holidays that we honor are not considered “legal holidays,” and therefore
some volunteers may have school or work on those days. We have had volunteers
in the past who were only able to participate on certain holidays, or even, only
available to deploy in the morning or collect at dusk. That is ok! We understand
busy schedules and appreciate any help you can provide on these days.
As a reminder, we provide flags to subscribers on five patriotic holidays
throughout the year (Memorial Day, Flag Day, Independence Day, Patriot Day
(9/11), Veterans Day). On these five days, volunteers are needed to install 3 ft. x 5
ft. U.S. flags in the front yards of subscribers around dawn, then return at dusk to
remove them.
Here is an example of how a flag holiday would look for volunteers:
1. Provide a team of two people. It can be done with just one person, but it might
take you a bit more time.
2. Provide a vehicle that can accommodate approximately 20 flags attached to 6’
poles, approximately 20 pieces of rebar and 1 installation template.
3. Arrive at the Roselle Fire Station on the assigned flag holiday around dawn
(usually between 6am-7am depending on the time of year).
4. Gather flags, rebar stakes, and template at Roselle Fire Station.
5. Follow the assigned list of addresses and install flags in subscribers’ front yards.
6. Return to those SAME addresses and collect the flags at dusk (usually between
5:30pm-6:30pm depending on the time of year).
7. Return the flags, rebar stakes, and template to the Roselle Fire Station.
Note: if there are any questions during the flag installations/removals, a contact
number will be provided on each event day for immediate assistance.
Are you interested in being a volunteer for the 2024 Flags for Roselle subscription
year? If so, please contact us at [email protected] to be added to our
dedicated list of volunteers.
As you may know, FFR shares proceeds earned between the Lake Park High
School Educational Foundation, Roselle American Legion Post 1084, Boy & Girl
Scouts of Roselle, Roselle Lions Club, Green Roselle, and the Roselle History Museum. By
volunteering your time, you are showing support to these community organizations
and helping them continue the great work they do for our community. Moreover,
if you know of someone who would be interested in joining our team of volunteers,
please do not hesitate to provide them this information. Thank you for your time,
talent and energy to assist Flags for Roselle and support organizations that do so
much for our wonderful community!
Sincerely,
